Brazil 70 Bossa Nova E Jazz De Peso
Not much of a cover, but a nice little batch of Brazilian groovers -- with heavy influence on the jazzier side of the spectrum! The tracks here are mostly from the second generation of bossa nova -- the time when the genre opened up a bit more from its roots, and artists in Brazil and Europe started to absorb some of the variations on the style that American artists of the 60s were bringing to their work. There's a marked influence here from Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 -- particularly in the way the tunes use vocals at a breezy level -- but there's also plenty of core Brazilian elements too, and given the rarity of these tunes, we can promise that they're all definitely the real deal! Titles include "Ta Na Cara" by Sydney Marzullo E Seu Conjunto, "Bossa Islandia" by Fonit Group, "Rio" by Nico Gomez, "Nana" by Mario Castro Neves, "Influencia Do Jazz" by Sonia, and "Berimbau" by Bossa 70. (LP comes in a plain black sleeve.)
