Flip Skateboards originally started in the UK in the 1980's as Deathbox Skateboards (later changed to Flip Skateboards in 1994).
Flip Skateboard Co. moved from the UK to California in July of 1994. First pro skaters to arrive for Flip Skateboards were Jeremy Fox, Ian Deacon and Geoff Rowley. Tom Penny, Rune Glifberg, and Andy Scott soon followed in 95. Flip Skateboards went on to become one of the world's biggest and most well known skateboard companies ever.
Four members on the Flip Skateboard team have won the prestigious Thrasher Skater of the Year Award: Bob Burnquist in 1997 (though he was sponsored by Anti-Hero at the time), Geoff Rowley in 2000, Arto Saari in 2001, and Mark Appleyard in 2003. Mark Appleyard also won best street skater in Transworld Skateboarding Magazine.
Flip has a team, with skate veterans such as Lance Mountain, street skate legends such as Geoff Rowley, and Tom Penny and also two legendary vert skaters by the name of Rune Glifberg and Bob Burnquist.
The Flip Team features pro skaters Geoff Rowley, Tom Penny, Arto Saari, Ali Boulala, David Gonzalez, Rune Glifberg, Bob Burnquist, Lance Mountain, Mark Appleyard and Rodrigo TX. The Flip Ssateboards team also features amateurs Shane Cross, Louie Lopez, Curren Caples and Luan Olveira. Flip Skateboard decks are manufactured here in California, USA and are made with top notch quality Canadian maple wood.
